Ett nytt kapitel börjar i Hockeytown

I ett drag som skakat om hela hockeyvärlden valde Detroit Red Wings under fredagskvällen den kanadensiska supertalangen Michael Misa som nummer ett i NHL-draften 2025. Det historiska ögonblicket utspelade sig inför tusentals fans och televisionstittare, och sätter tonen för en ny era i Detroit.

En talang utöver det vanliga

Michael Misa, som under den gångna säsongen dominerat OHL med sitt poängrekord och sitt mogna spel, hyllades redan innan draften som det hetaste framtidsnamnet. Misa, som spelat för Saginaw Spirit, har beskrivits som en komplett forward med både kreativitet och styrka, och jämförts med några av ligans största stjärnor i modern tid.

Red Wings general manager, Johan Ericsson, var tydlig med att Misa varit organisationens förstaval under en lång tid. "Vi har följt Michael noggrant i flera år och vi är helt övertygade om att han har alla verktyg för att bli en franchise-spelare. Hans ledaregenskaper, spelsinne och arbetsmoral är exakt vad vi vill se i en Red Wings-tröja,” sade Ericsson i samband med draften.

Fansens förväntningar skjuter i höjden

Stämningen i Little Caesars Arena var elektrisk när Michael Misa välkomnades upp på scenen, iklädd den klassiska röda Detroit-tröjan. I sociala medier exploderade glädjen bland fansen, där många menade att det här kan bli vändpunkten som lyfter Detroit tillbaka till forna glansdagar.

”Att få möjligheten att representera Red Wings är en dröm som går i uppfyllelse. Jag ser verkligen fram emot att få spela inför några av de mest passionerade fansen i hockeyvärlden och bidra till att bygga något stort här i Detroit,” sa en leende Misa i sin första intervju som Red Wing.

Vad betyder valet för framtiden?

Det har länge spekulerats om vilken väg Detroit skulle ta vid årets draft. Med ett ungt lag under utveckling ger valet av Michael Misa en tydlig signal om att framtiden redan är här. Laget hoppas att Misa på sikt kan bilda en dynamisk duo tillsammans med 2024 års 1:a val Zayne Parekh.

Experter menar att Misas ankomst till Detroit kan ge laget den offensiva gnista som länge saknats sedan storhetseran med Datsyuk och Zetterberg. Med sin skicklighet, snabbhet och speluppfattning väntas Misa bli en central figur i lagets återuppbyggnad.

Ett historiskt ögonblick för svensk hockey

Även på svensk mark har Misas draftval väckt stor uppmärksamhet, inte minst då Red Wings länge haft en stark svensk prägel och publikfavoriter från Sverige. Nu hoppas många att Misa kan ta rygg på klubbens stolta tradition och fortsätta bygga broar mellan Nordamerika och svensk hockey.

Med Michael Misa som förstaval 2025 har Detroit Red Wings satt ner foten och gjort det tydligt att siktet är inställt på framtida framgångar. Hockeyvärlden väntar nu med spänning på att se hur denna nya era kommer att ta form i ”Hockeytown”.

The ”Big Hammer” Dougie Hamilton har landat i Motortown Detroit och kommer under dagen att ansluta sig till laget och få träffa coacher och några av spelarna som är på plats och försäsongs tränar i Little Caesars Arena. Det var efter en sen trejd under gårdagen som Toronto sonen Hamilton blev klar för klubben, efter att de skickat iväg den omåttligt populäre och förra säsongens kapten Brent Burns samt den unge back kollegan Braden Schneider som nu hamnar i New York Rangers organisation.

Vi hann få några ord med Dougie på flygplatsen innan han hoppade in i väntande bil.

Hur känns det att bli trejdad två gånger under två dygn?

”Jag hann knappt att smälta nyheten om att jag skulle till Rangers tillsammans med Jackie (Jack Hughes) och the Dawg (Dawson Mercer). Jag fick sedan ett samtal av min agent att vänta med att boka flygbiljett till New York och att jag kunde eventuellt trejdas vidare till en annan klubb. Det var några hektiska timmar tills jag tillslut fick nyheten om att Red Wings hade trejdat för mig och det kändes som en stor lättnad.”

Du har under de senaste säsongerna haft mycket skadebekymmer och även bytt klubbadress flera gånger. Hur ser du på att komma till Detroit nu och återigen ta plats och slå dig in i en ny laguppställning?

”Jag känner mig stark just nu och hoppas att skadorna ligger bakom mig. Fysiskt är jag på topp och jag tror på en stark säsong. Det ska bli kul att få träffa grabbarna i laget och jag har hört mycket gott om ledarna i laget samt organisationen som är väldigt proffsig.”

Vad tror du att din roll kommer att bli i laget?

”Jag tror jag kommer att få en hel del PP-tid och kanske spela 1:a eller 2:a backpar. Det är upp till coachen att använda mig och mina styrkor som han tycker passar bäst. Det ska bli kul att få träffa honom och snacka lite.”

Dougie försvann sedan in i en svart sedan med tonade rutor och begav sig mot Little Caesars Arena för att träffa de ansvariga i klubben. Från den korta pratstunden fick jag intrycket av att han kändes exalterad, självsäker samt gav ett avslappnat intryck. Efter att ha stått intill denna bjässe till hockeyspelare förstår jag varför han också kallas ”The Big Hammer”. Nu är det dags för Hammer time i Detroit.

Detroit Red Wings GM Johan Ericsson kom under dagen överens med lagets 2:a center Bo Horvat om en kontraktsförlängning värd 54milj dollar. Kontraktet löper över 6år och gör att laget får lite stabilitet på centerpositionen framöver. Bo Horvat anses vara en viktig kugge i GM Johan Ericssons lagbygge då han under de senaste två säsongerna har stått för 156 poäng på 161 matcher, varav 70 mål. Målskytte är något som laget verkligen behöver och som kan vara svårt att hitta på UFA-marknaden utan att överbetala. Horvats cap hit kommer att ligga på 8,5milj AAV och han fick även en sign on bonus på 3milj när han förlängde med klubben.

Detroit har en åldrande kärna av spelare och inför anställningen av ny GM var framtiden osäker på hur laget skulle gå vidare. Nu ser det ut som att Red Wings kommer att satsa på en säsong där man vill vara med och slåss om en plats i slutspelet. Än så länge vet vi inte hur GM Johan Ericsson kommer att agera under free agency men det går rykten om att han inte är nöjd ännu och letar fler förstärkningar till truppen.

Det blev under dagen klart med en ny General Manager för Detroit Red Wings då Johan Ericsson skrev på för klubben. Han anses som en oprövad GM då han saknar erfarenheten men fick goda vitsord av Steve Yzerman som tagit över posten som President of Hockey operations i klubben.

"Det är en ära att som svenskfödd få chansen att styra en sådan anrik klubb med så många framstående svenska spelare genom tiderna. Jag tänker främst på spelare som Niklas Lidström och Henrik Zetterberg som jag har fått äran att träffa och samtala med innan jag tog jobbet. Jag vill även tacka Steve för den här möjligheten och ska försöka jobba långsiktigt med klubben då vi har ett gediget arbete framför oss tillbaka till toppen där vi hör hemma."

Red Wings missade slutspelet under föregående säsong och för klubben är detta ett viktigt vägskäl för vad som komma skall under säsongen 2024-25 och framåt.
